At Crescent Lodge Dental Practice in Clapham we believe in preventive dental care, which means we would rather help you avoid problems with your teeth for the future, rather than wait for things to go wrong, and then have to fix them. We believe in instilling this habit so, as part of this approach, we encourage you to bring your children to visit us from an early age. Regular dental health assessments from a young age ensure that children don’t suffer from untreated dental decay, which can have devastating consequences on their adult teeth. They’ll also learn that a visit to the dentist is a pleasant experience and not something to be feared.Book Appointment
Treating children from a young age also allows our dentists to look out for the early signs of cross bites or overbites. Dr Dino Birkenstock is particularly interested in early functional brace treatment and fixed orthodontic treatment for children. He is a qualified Invisalign practitioner and has been awarded silver status by Invisalign, the producers of virtually invisible aligners for adults and teenagers. We also offer fluoride applications that are a safe and effective way of safeguarding your growing child’s teeth from developing decay. Fluoride is painted onto the surface of your child’s teeth and this helps to mineralise the teeth, restoring their strength and function.
“Having moved out of London to Reading, dentistry at Crescent Lodge has become something of a family outing for us. But travelling so far is worth the effort for such excellent service and we thoroughly recommend the practice.”
Another treatment is fissure sealing, which involves the application of a tooth-coloured material to the surface of your child’s teeth to help prevent decay – this is especially useful while they are still learning to brush their teeth properly. Because we believe prevention is always better than cure, we also offer a special monthly dental care plan for children.
It’s never too early to begin getting your child acquainted with visits to the dentist, but a good marker is the appearance of their first baby teeth.
Again, the ideal time to begin is when their first teeth appear. This will ensure they are kept clean and healthy from the get-go!
We understand that a visit to the dentist may be daunting to your child but don’t worry – we have plenty of experience. Our friendly team will create a welcoming environment for you and your child, and will move the appointment along as slowly as is required. Your child’s first appointment may simply involve an introduction to the dentist and time to becoming familiar with the practice!
