Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessive sweating. It’s uncomfortable and embarrassing, as it involves the sweat glands working overtime and responding more sensitively to your activities than is usual.

It is easily resolved through Botox treatment. When Botox is injected into targeted areas, the output of the sweat glands is hugely reduced and sufferers can lead a normal life, without feeling permanently wet, or worried, about damp patches on their clothes. Results can be seen just 7-12 days after this life-changing procedure takes place. It’s a safe and effective way to reduce the symptoms of hyperhidrosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re sweating when your body does not need to cool down because of hot weather, or because you’ve just done some exercise, then you may be suffering from hyperhidrosis. This condition causes excessive sweating and affects approximately 3% of the population. The best way to find out if you have this condition is to make an appointment with your GP.

You’re very welcome to book a consultation with our practitioner to find out if you’d be a suitable candidate for hyperhidrosis treatment. Each case is different and once your practitioner has a bit more information about you, she will be able to make an informed decision as to whether you’re safe to go ahead, or whether you need to speak to your doctor first.

The amount you sweat will be hugely reduced following hyperhidrosis treatment. The reason it works is that the Botox will block the signal between the nerve and the sweat gland, and so stop/reduce the sweat produced. This relaxes the overstimulated muscles in an attempt to stop sweat production. We would certainly expect common side effects of hyperhidrosis, such as having wet clothes, and an unpleasant odour, to no longer be a problem.

The results of hyperhidrosis treatment last for 3-4 months. A simple retreatment appointment will ensure that your condition doesn’t return and cause you more problems.

The treatment is relatively painless. Botox in Clapham is administered by our practitioner, using an ultra-fine needle. An anaesthetic cream will be applied to the intended injection sites beforehand.
