Why visiting an orthodontist may be a pleasant surprise

If you’re like many adults, you may have a memory from your teens of your family orthodontist recommending that you have braces. At the time, it may have felt like it wasn’t important or a step too far for your self-conscious teen self. You may even remember the braces that were on offer at the time with a vague sense of horror.

Fortunately, times have changed. Your attitude towards your crooked teeth may have changed too.

Adult orthodontics at Crescent Lodge in London

A growing number of adults are seeking treatment with an orthodontist to straighten their crooked teeth and improve the appearance of their smile or how well their teeth bite. Here at Crescent Lodge Dental, we often see adults who have developed mannerisms to hide their teeth when they talk and who avoid photographs at all costs. If that sounds familiar, we want you to know that it’s not too late to have your teeth straightened. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone smile with confidence for the first time in their adult life.

When you visit us to consult with an experienced orthodontist in London, the first thing you will learn is that there are several orthodontic (teeth straightening) solutions designed for adults. These brace and aligner systems are incredibly discreet, far removed from the ‘train track’ wire braces you may have contemplated as a teen.

Option #1: Damon clear fixed braces

Damon Clear braces, for example, are fixed braces that use tooth-coloured wires and clear brackets to make the fact that you’re having orthodontic treatment almost impossible to spot. Treatment lengths with the Damon System are typically up to six months shorter than with traditional wire braces.

Option #2: Lingual invisible braces

If you want to keep your orthodontic treatment completely to yourself, you may decide that lingual braces are the best option. Lingual braces are wire braces that fit the back of your teeth so that they are completely hidden. We have an experienced dentist at Crescent Lodge Dental Practice whose special interest in orthodontics means that we can offer lingual braces with excellent outcomes.

Option #3: Invisalign removable aligners

If you’re not sure a fixed brace is a right option for you, you may want to discuss whether you’re a suitable candidate for Invisalign clear aligners. These aligners are incredibly popular with adults as they are almost invisible, comfortable to wear, and can be removed when you want to eat, drink or clean your teeth. You can even take them out for special occasions, although they should be worn as much as possible for the treatment to be fully effective.
