Starting Your Smile Journey with Veneers

If you find yourself constantly hiding your smile, then we’re here to tell you: there’s a better way. At Crescent Lodge in Clapham, London, we’re a team of dentists known for being experts, with a range of treatments to help you show off that sparkling new smile. One way we can help is with our porcelain veneers. In this post, we’ll go over the treatment, aftercare and results involved with this popular treatment – so you can get the smile you deserve.

Veneers explained

Put simply, veneers are a kind of cap that fits over your tooth (or teeth), giving it a shiny new surface. Ours are made of porcelain, a material known for its durability, which also gives a realistic look – so much so, that people probably won’t be able to tell you have veneers at all. They’re made to suite in with your existing teeth, so will be a similar shape, size and colour. In fact, some people choose to have them in cases where they have a discoloured tooth – not least because, like natural teeth, they can help reflect light and make your smile appear brighter. Other reasons for having veneers include slight gaps between the teeth and chipped or crooked teeth.

The treatment

Veneers treatment is straightforward, and involves preparing the tooth or teeth for the new porcelain cap by filing them at the sides. An impression is then taken, so the new porcelain veneers will be an exact fit. Then, they’re bonded together. As treatments go, porcelain veneers can be kinder to teeth than other cosmetic dental procedures and the treatment is much faster than alternatives such as braces.

The aftercare

After having your shiny new veneers fitted, it’s normal for your gums to feel a little sore and sensitive. But with careful brushing, this should soon pass. Just like your other teeth, porcelain veneers require a good dental routine to keep them in top condition – and you’ll also need to have regular check-ups with us, just as you would with natural teeth.

The results

From a whiter, brighter smile, to straighter teeth, to closing gaps between them, there are lots of ways veneers can benefit your smile. And, with the right dental care, you can be sure they’ll last.
