Can And Can’ts Of Wearing Invisalign Aligners

Our expert dentists have seen time and time again how Invisalign in Clapham can make a difference in patients’ lives. From transforming smiles to improving oral health to preventing concerns like tooth wear and jaw pain, there’s a lot to gain from these clever, clear braces. Best of all, both adults and young people can receive the recommended treatment – all it takes is a consultation to start your Invisalign journey in Clapham.

Today, our Clapham dentists run through some quick dos and don’ts of Invisalign aligners, helping reveal a bit more about treatment for those taking those tentative first steps, as well as people who are interested in treatment and patients who may have just begun their programme.

Eating With Invisalign Aligners

While you can eat what you like while wearing Invisalign, you’ll need to remove them first. That’s because biting and chewing forces could damage these clear braces, and there’s a chance of staining them, too (which would make treatment far less discreet). In addition, food and bacteria could gather between the crevices, potentially increasing your risk of tooth decay and other concerns.

Smoking

Smoking is not something our London dentists would ever recommend – it’s harmful to yourself and others, and can pose a serious threat to your oral health. Gum disease is linked to this bad habit, as is a more concerning disease: cancer. Whether it’s cigarettes or vapes, don’t smoke with your Invisalign (or without it!). Even if it doesn’t cause one of these conditions, it could stain or weaken your apparatus.

Cleaning

Our London dentists recommend cleaning your Invisalign aligners alongside your teeth twice daily for two minutes at a time. But, you’ll also need to gently brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove any food debris from the day. At least every other day, soak your Invisalign retainers in denture cleaning solution or Invisalign crystals and make sure you rinse when you take out or pop in your aligners.

Smiling

With a clear plastic design, you’ll be free to smile during and after treatment. Results are extremely predictable – your treatment involves creating a digital image of your smile, showing how teeth will be moved and aligned during treatment, and even creating a computer picture of your anticipated results. So you’ll know exactly what to expect and be able to enjoy your treatment as the results are slowly unveiled.
